SUMMARY:Arts in Solidarity
DESCRIPTION:VENUE CHANGE  \nOn Friday September 5\, two days before Sunday’s “Arts In Solidarity” event\, organizers were informed that the venue Alhambra Palace had cancelled use of the venue due to perceived threats in the political climate enveloping the City of Chicago.  \nThe event organizers\, who are seasoned cultural advocates are unanimous in the decision to “go on with the show” – stating that presenting opportunities for communities to come together through the arts in times of stress\, as well as supporting fundraising for immigrant legal defense are crucial healing vehicles at this time. The benefit for the Midwest Immigrant Bond Fund has a new sense of immediacy as the weekend plans as advertised by the Whitehouse target local friends\, neighbors and co-workers.  \nThe program as announced below will continue with the same time and terms but at Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center (SRBCC). \nABOUT THE EVENT  \nAn ad-hoc volunteer collective of local arts presenters and advocates has come together to raise funds for legal defense and to speak out against the ongoing persecution of our family\, friends\, and neighbors by law enforcement agencies—often without due process. This group has curated a powerful event featuring cultural voices from across the community. All proceeds will support legal expenses resulting from detentions and prosecutions. \nParticipating artists confirmed to date are: \nCarpacho Y Su Super Combo\, Los Pleneros De Don Segundo\, Surabhi Ensemble\, Afrocolombian Band “Epa!”\, D.J. Damon Locks \nLuis Tubens – Emcee\, Speakers: Aislinn Pulley\, Jorge Mujica\, Alejandra Oliva\, and Sen. Graciela Guzman  \nThe organizers bring together this international chorus of voices to express solidarity with people targeted by ICE and other para-military forces. \nWe are alarmed by the attacks and the ongoing psychological and physical trauma they cause\, and seek to assist in adequately fighting the mounting legal battles immigrants are facing. \nThe program will raise funds for The Midwest Immigration Bond Fund  \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE \nDuring the event\, speakers will provide information on how you can help and a literature table will include education info\, “Know Your Rights”\, and other useful resources. \nThe organizers of the concert have donated their labor to create this event. The money raised above event production expenses will directly support the beneficiaries. The event is ticketed with a minimum suggested donation of $25 but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. \nThe event is open to all ages with parental supervision. \nThe non-profit concert producers are also accepting donations from event sponsors to offset the production expenses via HotHouse.   \n  \nABOUT THE ARTISTS  \nLOS PLENEROS DE DON SEGUNDO \nBorn at the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center (SRBCC)\, Los Pleneros de Don Segundo have been performing original plena music in Chicago since 2016. SUMMARY:Barrio Bugalú welcomes Daniel Díaz and Alexander López
DESCRIPTION:BYOB (Beer and Wine Only) | Salsa Class with Lisa La Boriqua at 6:45 pm | $10 Suggested Donation not required for admission | Complimentary Small Bite with your donation (While Supplies Last) \nAlmost two decades ago some of the most serious Latin record collectors in Chicago joined forces to play for a packed dance floor at Sonotheque as part of the Chicago World Music Festival (2007). The monthly all-vinyl Barrio Bugalú was born at one of Chicago’s top audiophile destinations. SRBCC relives Barrio Bugalú with appearances by the original host DJs (Super Barrio Brothers and Agúzate DJ Crew)\, as well as special sets by some of Chicago’s most avid vinyl selectors. \nHeld every last Friday of the month\, Barrio Bugalú is not just a dance party; it’s a celebration of history\, a tribute to the pioneers of Latin music\, and a testament to the timeless power of Afro-Caribbean rhythms to bring people together. \nSpecial Guest: Daniel Díaz & Alexander López \nPuerto Rican artist Daniel Díaz was born with rhythm in his hands. It is his rhythm and his hands that have made him a one-of-a-kind artist—just like his musical invention known as El Tripandero. SUMMARY:Papo Santiago and La Cantera
DESCRIPTION:La Cantera bring their Latin Jazz and Salsa series to the parks with special guest Papo Santiago. \nPapo Santiago has been a driving force in the Chicago salsa scene for decades\, both as an instrumentalist and as a world-class sonero. Santiago started his musical journey in his native Puerto Rico\, where he was recruited by La Terrífica in the early 1970s to play baritone saxophone. The band’s international acclaim paved the way for Santiago’s incursion into the world of salsa. In the 80s Santiago moved to Chicago\, where he carved a niche for himself and mastered the flute\, guitar\, and his own vocal improvisational skills. In his improvisations\, Santiago combines a street-wise sense of humor with a unique approach to rhythm and swing. Santiago is also the founder and leader of Infraverde\, considered by Timba.com “as one of the more polished and progressive Salsa ensembles in Chicago in recent years.”
