SUMMARY:Nuestra Lírica: Hip hop de Pe-erre & The Chi
DESCRIPTION:This Independence Day weekend\, as Chicago’s Puerto Rican community gathers in Humboldt Park for the historic Jolgorio Boricua: No Kings\, No Colonies celebration—a call for self-determination\, cultural affirmation\, and solidarity—Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center welcomes two influential voices from Puerto Rico\, rapper Siete Nueve and producer\, DJ\, finger drummer\, and MC El S\, for a special residency at La Resi and an unforgettable evening dedicated to the power of words. \nNuestra Lírica: Hip hop de Pe-erre & The Chi brings together artists whose work reminds us that lyrics are more than entertainment—they are memory\, testimony\, resistance\, healing\, and imagination. \nJoining Siete Nueve and El S are two of Chicago’s most compelling voices: Chicago Poet Laureate Mayda Del Valle and acclaimed hip-hop artist Pinqy Ring. Together\, these artists will share performances\, stories\, creative process\, and dialogue exploring how poetry and music shape identity\, challenge injustice\, preserve culture\, and inspire transformation. \nThroughout the evening\, audiences will experience live performances\, artist conversations\, dj sets\, and moments of collective reflection that blur the boundaries between concert\, poetry reading\, community gathering\, and cultural dialogue. Rooted in the spirit of Puerto Rico and Chicago\, Nuestra Lírica celebrates the artists who use words to build bridges\, reclaim narratives\, and envision freer futures. \nTICKETS \n

SUMMARY:Afrodjia Social Club
DESCRIPTION:Afrodjia Social Club\, an immersive deejay performance and pop-up supper club conceived by artist\, curator\, and deejay Sadie Woods. \nAfrodjia Social Club is supported in part by the Chicago Park District and the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation. Program partners include Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center\, CNL Projects\, and Chicago Public Art Group. \n\n\nUnder the artistic direction of Sadie Woods\, with acclaimed trumpeter Corey Wilkes serving as Music Director\, Afrodjia Social Club features an orchestral DJ set that brings together Woods’ deejaying practice with live symphonic instrumentation and vocal performance. The performance pays homage to Woods’ Chicago roots and familial heritage by way of Lares and Guayama (Borikén)\, New York\, Louisiana\, and Mississippi. Utilizing deejaying as both an American art form and cultural catalyst\, the performance highlights musical traditions that have long sustained communities through ceremony\, celebration\, gathering\, and fellowship. \nThrough contemporary music\, original compositions and reimagined traditional songs\, the program merges electronic sound\, orchestral arrangements\, and live performance\, demonstrating how music functions as sanctuary\, archive\, and living embodiment of American histories. The work celebrates the cultural knowledge\, foodways\, and musical traditions carried forward through generations\, honoring the peoples whose labor\, stewardship\, and creativity have shaped the cultural landscape of the Americas. \n \n\n\nHospitality is central to the experience. Guests will enjoy Comidas y Bebidas\, a thoughtfully prepared dinner by Chef Roberto Peréz of Urban Pilón\, centering Borinquén and Caribbean dining traditions through a farm-to-table approach featuring produce from Cedillo Fresh Produce\, locally sourced ingredients and time-honored cooking methods. \nThe evening includes beverage contributions from Three Olive Vodka\, Tin Cup Bourbon\, and 1800 Tequila. \nLineup: Sadie Woods (DJ\, Artistic Director)\, Corey Wilkes (Music Director)\, Miguel de la Cerna (Composer)\, Charles McKeith (Drummer)\, Edith Yokley (Violin\, Composer)\, Chris Paquette (Percussion)\, Avery Attzs (Steel Drum)\, Joe Sonnefeldt (Steel Drum)\, Thaddeus Tukes (Vibes/Keys)\, Royce Harrington (Trombone)\, Kevin Nabors Tenor Sax\, Frank Russell (Bass)\, Illuminati Congo (Vocals)\, Isa Starr (Vocals). \n\nTICKETS

SUMMARY:Henry Cole Jazz Trio
DESCRIPTION:Cole became the first Puerto Rican resident on the island—and only the second nationwide—to receive the New Jazz Works Grant from Chamber Music America for his compositional work with Villa Locura\, underscoring his standing as a composer of national significance. \nHe is widely recognized for his role as drummer for the Grammy Award–winning ensemble led by Miguel Zenón. As a core member of the Quartet for over two decades\, Cole has shaped the ensemble’s rhythmic architecture across internationally acclaimed recordings and global tours and contributed to projects that have defined the contemporary Latin and jazz canon. \nCole’s work extends across genres\, including collaborations with Tito Allen\, Tego Calderón\, Andy Montañez\, CHano Domigüez\, Ben Wendel\, Gary Burton\, Quincy Jones\, Draco Rosa\, Daddy Yankee \, Natti Natasha and Calle 13 earning a Grammy Award for the latter\, among others. \nIn his latest album\, De Mayagüez (2025)\, Cole returned explicitly to his hometown as a conceptual foundation. The album examines place\, memory\, and forward motion\, internalizing folkloric logic within modern compositional frameworks. It does not reference tradition as ornament; it advances it as structure and propulsion. \n\nTICKETS\n

SUMMARY:La Parranda del 55
DESCRIPTION:English \nThe SRBCC Parranda is back! This year\, we’re reviving this celebration that brings us together through live music\, food\, and community. On Sunday\, December 6\, we will depart from the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center at 4:00 p.m. aboard a coach bus and visit four restaurants—to be announced—within Chicago’s Latine community. \nJust like a traditional Puerto Rican parranda\, we’ll arrive with the music\, and our hosts will welcome us with food and house specialties. Los Pleneros de Don Segundo will provide the rhythm\, joined by the young musicians of La Cantera. There will also be music aboard the bus throughout the journey. Admission will include coach-bus transportation and food at every stop. \nAfter visiting our host restaurants in the Northwest Side\, we will return to SRBCC to enjoy a traditional Puerto Rican sancocho and bring the evening to a close. \nRemember: We will gather and board the bus at SRBCC\, and free parking will be available in our lot for those arriving by car. \nThis parranda is a fundraising event held as part of SRBCC’s 55th-anniversary celebration. SRBCC is Chicago’s longest-standing Latine cultural center. \n  \nEspañol \n¡Vuelve la Parranda de SRBCC!
