SUMMARY:Barrio Bugalú welcomes Daniel Díaz and Alexander López
DESCRIPTION:BYOB (Beer and Wine Only) | Salsa Class with Lisa La Boriqua at 6:45 pm | $10 Suggested Donation not required for admission | Complimentary Small Bite with your donation (While Supplies Last) \nAlmost two decades ago some of the most serious Latin record collectors in Chicago joined forces to play for a packed dance floor at Sonotheque as part of the Chicago World Music Festival (2007). The monthly all-vinyl Barrio Bugalú was born at one of Chicago’s top audiophile destinations. SRBCC relives Barrio Bugalú with appearances by the original host DJs (Super Barrio Brothers and Agúzate DJ Crew)\, as well as special sets by some of Chicago’s most avid vinyl selectors. \nHeld every last Friday of the month\, Barrio Bugalú is not just a dance party; it’s a celebration of history\, a tribute to the pioneers of Latin music\, and a testament to the timeless power of Afro-Caribbean rhythms to bring people together. \nSpecial Guest: Daniel Díaz & Alexander López \nPuerto Rican artist Daniel Díaz was born with rhythm in his hands. It is his rhythm and his hands that have made him a one-of-a-kind artist—just like his musical invention known as El Tripandero. This ingenious creation\, conceived by Daniel in 2010\, combines the rhythm of the three hand drums (panderos) that produce the sound of traditional Puerto Rican plena into a single instrument. \nAlongside René Pérez “Residente\,” Daniel has performed on stages in over 57 countries\, showcasing to the world both his creativity and the musical power of his Tripandero. This young percussionist\, arranger\, and composer has also collaborated with a wide range of musical stars\, including Calle 13\, Shakira\, Ricky Martin\, Carlos Vives\, Ricardo Montaner\, Mon Laferte\, Bad Bunny\, Giovanni Hidalgo\, Diego El Cigala\, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico\, Ismael Miranda… and has performed on global platforms such as the 2017 Latin Grammys\, hundreds of festivals around the world—including Austin City Limits—and Cirque du Soleil by Lionel Messi. \nhttps://segundoruizbelvis.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Untitled-design-4.mp4\nTickets

SUMMARY:Papo Santiago and La Cantera
DESCRIPTION:La Cantera bring their Latin Jazz and Salsa series to the parks with special guest Papo Santiago. \nPapo Santiago has been a driving force in the Chicago salsa scene for decades\, both as an instrumentalist and as a world-class sonero. Santiago started his musical journey in his native Puerto Rico\, where he was recruited by La Terrífica in the early 1970s to play baritone saxophone. The band’s international acclaim paved the way for Santiago’s incursion into the world of salsa. In the 80s Santiago moved to Chicago\, where he carved a niche for himself and mastered the flute\, guitar\, and his own vocal improvisational skills. In his improvisations\, Santiago combines a street-wise sense of humor with a unique approach to rhythm and swing. Santiago is also the founder and leader of Infraverde\, considered by Timba.com “as one of the more polished and progressive Salsa ensembles in Chicago in recent years.”
