Through Cinema on the Road\, AdocPR continues its mission of making documentary film accessible to diverse populations\, preserving collective memory\, and promoting cultural dialogue between Puerto Rico and its diaspora. \nThe Chicago edition of Cinema on the Road will feature a curated selection of thought-provoking documentaries that explore identity\, justice\, music\, community resilience\, and the power of memory. This short film highlights the everyday struggles and resilience of the community of Quebrada Arenas in the east central municipality of San Lorenzo.\n\nThis powerful selection highlights the artistic vision and social conscience of Puerto Rican filmmakers. Armitage Ave.) \n4:00 PM – Reception with wine and empanadas \n4:15 PM – Short film from the Adoc Series \n4:35 PM – Introduction by Director Álvaro Calderón \n4:40 PM – Screening of Julia VIVE \n6:10 PM – Q&A with the director \n6:20 PM – End of the Program \nFilm in Spanish\, with English subtitles. \n“Julia VIVE” is a feature-length Puerto Rican film that harmoniously combines the educational function of the documentary genre with the lyricism and strength of the narrative genre\, offering a new and contemporary perspective on our acclaimed poet and patriot JULIA DE BURGOS. \nThe educational segments include interesting interviews (enriched with abundant visual elements from her era) with renowned academic and cultural figures from Puerto Rico and other countries\, who are very knowledgeable about JULIA’s legacy and her historical context. \nThe scenes of dramatic reenactments were produced with great care and professionalism in all aspects\, including performances by a magnificent cast\, as well as many production values such as costumes\, makeup and hair\, filming locations\, props\, and the carefully recreated ambiance of her era. \nThis integration of genres helps strengthen our film and present today’s and future generations with a rich artistic piece filled with various nuances\, honoring the great legacy of JULIA and reaffirming her relevance—inspirational and alive—in our present and future.
