“Julia VIVE” is a feature-length Puerto Rican film that harmoniously combines the educational function of the documentary genre with the lyricism and strength of the narrative genre, offering a new and contemporary perspective on our acclaimed poet and patriot JULIA DE BURGOS.
The educational segments include interesting interviews (enriched with abundant visual elements from her era) with renowned academic and cultural figures from Puerto Rico and other countries, who are very knowledgeable about JULIA’s legacy and her historical context.
The scenes of dramatic reenactments were produced with great care and professionalism in all aspects, including performances by a magnificent cast, as well as many production values such as costumes, makeup and hair, filming locations, props, and the carefully recreated ambiance of her era.
This integration of genres helps strengthen our film and present today’s and future generations with a rich artistic piece filled with various nuances, honoring the great legacy of JULIA and reaffirming her relevance—inspirational and alive—in our present and future. We are honored to have the supportive and enthusiastic backing of Julia de Burgos’s family.
Short film before the screening of Julia Vive:
Metamorfosis – Another youth-produced short film from Documentar la Memoria documenting how a community in the municipality of Orocovis transforms an abandoned school into a cultural and educational hub.
This powerful selection highlights the artistic vision and social conscience of Puerto Rican filmmakers. From environmental justice to cultural heritage, these stories inspire reflection and reconnection across borders.
