Established the third Friday of December 2023, La Cantera’s Monthly Residency at The California Clipper is one of SRBCC’s most notable investments in the development of emerging local artists. With past appearances by Paoli Mejías (Carlos Santana), Jonathan Suazo (Top 10 Jazz Albums of 2023 by the New York Times) and Flaco Navaja (The Warriors, New Concept Album From Lin-Manuel Miranda), this jam has become a regular stop for award-winning Jazz, Salsa and World Music artists.
The evening will involve a presentation (with a live band!) on the history of salsa, from the 1960s with Chamaco Ramírez to today with Bad Bunny, a salsa tutorial with two instructors, and hours of open dancing with a live band and Latin American food.
La Salsoteca, a salsa powerhouse directed by Colombian pianist Sergio Ospina Romero comes directly from Bloomington IN to present a tribute to Cuba and Puerto Rico through the music of Celia Cruz and Catalino "Tite" Curet Alonso.
