Under the direction of pianist Adrian Ruiz, La Cantera is the Afro-Caribbean Jazz performance ensemble for young adults (ages 19-24) at SRBCC. Established in 2018 at the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center, the ensemble is recognized for blending young veterans from Ruiz Belvis’ Afro-Caribbean Jazz and Afro-Latin Percussion apprenticeships with guest performances by top local and touring Latin music artists. Participants engage in a dynamic schedule that not only enhances their musical skills but also teaches them how to effectively leverage their talents and gain exposure in the industry.
